Regions of Scotland Starter Kit 01

The first Kit is considered by Aad van Zuylen and Jean Marie Putz both passionate if it is about whisky. If you want to know more about nosing and tasting notes you can look at the web site from Jean Marie: www.whisky-distilleries.info
or www.whiskyfun.com A well balanced Kit and a good start.

The first kit contains:
Lagavulin 16 years
Lagavulin is one of the great classics from Islay. All the spirit of Islay, (the sea, the peat and the smoke), remarkably balanced is concentrated in it.

Bladnoch 2001
Nice fruity first nose. Very refined impressions. Rather complex hints of ripe fruit and some light medicinal touches behind. Nice freshness too. In the mouth a very impressive attack, very fresh and nice acid unripe fruits developing soon on smoother notes of cashew nuts. Nice nutty and chocolate finish. Fresher notes appear a bit later. The 6 years old version was nice. This one is impressive!

The Arran Malt 12 years

Glendronach Revival 15 years
The first nose is marked by sherry but also by something between yeast and mushroom. This latest hints are quite dominant first, but fade quite quickly to make some room to an interesting mix of sherry and fruits. In the palate, the first impression is some quite acid sherry which develops quickly on smoother notes of plum, moka or chocolate having amazingly lost any reference to the original acidity without having lost any of its freshness making this whisky an intense and pleasant dram. Finish is rather long and the moka, chocolate and sherry notes from the mouth remain for long minutes.

Highland Park 12 years
The nose reveals immediately the exceptional class of this great malt. Balance and complexity associated to a great aromatic richness characterize the whisky of the most Northern of all Scotland's distilleries. A light smell of iodinated smoke associated to grilled malt hints emphasizes the exceptional character of this single malt. The taste is even pleasant. The only negative point is that the pleasure disappears quickly, due to a too short finish. The affordable price makes it a good quality-price ratio.

Glenfarclas 12 years

Despite its "screwed" top typical for cheaper spirits, this whisky is an absolute must among the Speyside whiskies. Some discrete hints of peat in a well balanced whisky, matured in sherry casks. The very interesting ration price-quality makes it a essential whisky in any good collection.
